Gender equality in labour market PDF Print

According to the art. 16 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova: “… all citizens… are equal in front of the law and public authorities indiscriminately on race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, religion, opinion, ethnic belief, wellbeing and social origin.”

Today, the EU funded project “Strengthening Moldova’s capacity to manage labour and return migration” has launched the awareness campaign of the public opinion regarding gender equality on labour market of Moldova. Despite statistical data that show a slight discrepancy between the level of employment of men vs women, the situation is far to be considered an even one. This fact can be felt in rural regions of Moldova.

Often one can read in the job adds the following “… for this position a man is wanted” or “… A woman is preferred for the respective position.”, this being a form of discrimination dependent on gender issue.

Another aspect of gender discrimination is the differences of salaries offered to women in comparison to those of men, the latest being as a rule higher.

Such situations can be met rather frequently in our country.

Through the information campaign we wish to change the public opinion, or better said the pre-conceptions of the public and employers, especially regarding the equality of gender on labour market.

In our opinion every person should know that there are laws, programs and strategies at the national level that assure equal rights and freedom of women from economic, social, political, civil and cultural point of view and one should lead himself according to them.

Documents at national level supporting and promoting the equality of gender:
