Lack of labour force as a result of migration PDF Print

Migration phenomena in Moldova exists already over 15 years. Although the same phenomena takes place in all countries, in Moldova, it has become of wide scope. At present, over 600.000 (unofficial figure) of Moldovans find themselves abroad (or app. 40% of the active labour force ), the majority of them working illegally. The main destination of Moldovans is EU countries, especially: Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Germany.

According to surveys and analysis done by international organizations, if migration flow continues in the same pace then Moldova will face a severe shortage of labour force in several decades. This fact is being already felt in some areas like: constructions, specialist in plants and fabrics, agriculture, etc.

It is worth mentioning that the average age of migrants is between 30-45 years old, the active labour force.

Given the circumstances and facts, the EU-funded project „Strengthening Moldova’s capacity to manage labour and return migration within the Mobility Partnership with EU” launches an awareness campaign regarding the consequences of migration of labor force and namely the shortage of labour force.
